I want to add Rich Pins to this website, since over the summer I am going to start blogging about canning the fruits and veggies that we grow in our Rocky Mountain gardens.
Read along to see the change log for this process. Please note that I have never done this before, so you can easily follow along and add rich pins to your site.
To start with, what are rich pins?
Right now there are 6 types of rich pins: app, movie, recipe, article, product and place. Rich pins contain detailed product information, from real-time pricing to availability and where to buy an item. I am going to start with the Recipe and Article Rich pins.
The example below is a Rich Pin. It doesn’t show up on the embed, but if you click through you can see the example of what a recipe Rich Pin looks like.
First you must have Pinterest for Business.
My Pinterest page is verified to my Marketing Business Biz Lucent, but since I want Rich Pins for this site, I am going to reverify it for careyvanwagoner.com.
To verify your website, go to your gear icon.
Then go to your account settings.
Put in your URL for your site, and click verify. Pinterest will generate a script for you, that you need to copy and paste into your websites HEAD tags. If you use Genesis, this is super simple. Just go to Genesis on your WordPress dashboard, Theme Settings, and Header and Footer Scripts.
Then paste it at the bottom of your scripts. This is also the place that you put in your scripts for Google Analytics, among other things.
Now go back to Pinterest and click the Red complete verification process. And volia, your site is verified.
Now back to our Rich Pins.
Start by going to the RICH PINS Page on Pinterest.
Click on the Get started Button.
Next you need to decide what type of RICH Pins you want for your site. Since I already decided, recipe and article, we are going to start with Article.
Put this content into the head/head tags of the URL that you want to RICH Pin, and then fill in the content with your content.
Copy the code, and paste it into your header tags.
In order to place data into your header tags for each specific URL on your site, you need to download a plugin.
I used the Per Page Add to Head plugin. It add a handy little box below your post.
After this is done and you have published your post, you need to go to the RICH PIN Validator and type in your URL.
Validate a single URL that you have placed Meta data into. Once you do this, you if you did it correctly, it will say verified.
And that is it!
Click on apply and they will contact you if your site has been approved. I don’t know if this post will be approved, as it says that an Article has to be Original Content(which this is) and Tell a Story(which it sort of does?). It tells a story of how to add Rich Pins to your site. I will post back as soon as I hear from them.
UPDATE. They approved the site REALLY FAST. I checked my email 15 minutes after I published this post, and I was approved.
